OSTEOPATHY IS A SYSTEM OF MEDICINE THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE WHOLE INDIVIDUAL.
We are the culmination of everything that’s happened to us.
So it’s essential for your osteopath to take a comprehensive case history detailing not just the current complaint, but also any previous problems or injuries including a full medical history.
When part of the structure is altered through for example, physical trauma, occupational strain or stress or emotional trauma, a chain reaction may take place which is often mediated through the communication networks of the body; the blood supply, nervous or hormonal systems.
Treatment is aimed at gently releasing and balancing areas of physical tension, returning the body to a state of balance and allowing the body’s own self-healing ability to restore well-being and health.
CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY
Yes. Cranial Osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that uses very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stresses throughout the body, including the head. It is extremely effective in treating people of all ages, from birth to old age. I have treated patients from 3 days old to 97 years old this way!
There are a variety of different techniques, some that produce dramatic sounding clicks and some with very gently applied methods. I will always vary the treatment style depending on your preferences and needs.
CHILDREN & BABIES
An adult must be present for the duration of the treatment for any patient up to and including 16 years old.
Wherever treatment allows, young children often choose to sit on the floor or a parent/carers lap and play with toys, and babies may be fed whilst they are being treated.
It’s often helpful for us to talk over the phone when your child is not present and this can be done at any time during our programme and even to take the case history at the start.
Osteopathy is a protected title.
This means your osteopath, myself included, must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council, a separate government regulatory body. Our licence to practice is renewed every year dependent on Professional Indemnity Insurance checks and completion of Continuing Professional Development training.
